Whilst none of us can manage to be involved in every part of church life, its still nice to know whats is going on. We hope that this area of the site will help to keep us all up to speed so that we can pray effectively for the ministries and be encouraged by the testimony of others.
Soulnet Retreat 2009
February 6th saw myself (Carly Butler), Emma Brough and Alex Trowern head off to the annual soulnet retreat at Centre Parcs in Sherwood Forest for some relaxation and time with God.
We got a lot of both! This is a great retreat if you need time out from youth work and want to reconnect with Jesus, there's no pressure to be on time, to be at everything or even to stay til the end!! Mike Pilavachi invited us to just 'be' and so we received an awesome time of encouragement and spiritual refreshment.
Of course Mike is never one to just 'be', so throughout the weekend we got some great teaching and the honest approach to where we sometimes feel we are as youth leaders. He also had his trusty intern Andy Croft who did a brilliant preach on the Church today and how we as Christians shouldn't be fighting the Church because we are the Church!
All in all it was a great time to listen to God's heart on our ministry and ask the question, "What is my vision?"
Mike spoke about Grace in relation to addictions in the last session. It was great to be reminded, as we drove home for 4 hours in the snow, that God just loves us to bits in our lowest moments, when we lose all discipline and Godliness - he picks us up and says "Jesus already died for that" and we can be restored into a relationship with Him.
Oh yeah and the rapids are sooo cool!
