Whilst none of us can manage to be involved in every part of church life, its still nice to know whats is going on. We hope that this area of the site will help to keep us all up to speed so that we can pray effectively for the ministries and be encouraged by the testimony of others.
Faith & Football's extra Time literacy scheme has been running over the past two years in several of Portsmouth Primary schools delivering essential literacy skills, and life skills such as dealing with anger, forgiving others, self worth and friendship. The scheme encourages the children to look to the Bible for solutions, teaching them that the Bible is an option for giving them guidance in their life. This year saw 5 mentors from Kings Church take on the Extra Time scheme in Somers Park Primary school. Led by Graham Farr, mentors were Emma Davenport, Tamsin Raper, Mark Rose and Gillian Breach, mentoring 2 children each per session. The mentors noticed huge improvements in the children’s literacy skills over the year, and parents and teachers were impressed with how much each Childs confidence in reading had grown. Portsmouth FC player Linvoy Primus, a founder member of Faith and Football, visited the children and mentors at the last session where parents came to a party to meet the mentors and hear poems the children had written. At the party, each child received a certificate from Linvoy for completing the scheme, and a children’s Bible.
