Next Level International - Church Planters for Crimea Project
Church Planters - Vladimir (Vlodia) & Irina Bilik
Gift Day - Sunday 7th March
Over the past few weeks we have been talking a lot about distraction. We have been saying that the most important thing we need to do is to love God with all of our heart, our soul, our mind and our strength. One of the distractions that we can face is in the area of out possessions, our finances. Jesus reminds us time and time again that our value as Christ followers lies in eternity and not in the here and now. The Crimea gift day is an opportunity for us to invest into eternity, to make the difference in the lives of boys and irls and men and women; to literally rescue them from a lost eternity.
Paul, when he was writing to the Corinthian church, lifted up the example of the Macedonians who as a church, gave out of their extreme poverty. I cannot begin to imagine what extreme poverty looks like in first centruy Macedonia. We, in contrast, are able to give out of our comparative riches. We want to encourage everyone who is part of the King's church to give a gift towards this incredible opportunity that we have. What we are asking you to do now is to prayerfully consider how you can give to this mission. You can give a one off amount on giving Sunday (7th March) or you can pledge a monthly sum. Remember no amount is too small even £1 a month will contribute to our £290 per month commitment. If you would like to give to this project now, please contact us at
gareth@kingsportsmouth.co.uk and we will send you out a form for one of givings and monthly givings.
Our Potential Church Planter
Vladimir and Irina are a very down to earth couple with no pretences. Their servant heart shines through in everything they say and do. Vladimir is a construction engineer by trade. He committed his life to the Lord in 1996 while he was watching a Christian programme on TV. He immediately sensed God's calling to ministry and began attending Bible School shortlya after his conversion. On completion, he got involved in his mother church. The dream and desire of opening a church remained with him. Irina is fully supportive of her husband. They have no children of their own but are in the process of adopting 2 children: a brother and sister; Bogdan and Miroslava.
Some time ago they decided to move to Simferopol to continue a new church plant that had originated from their mother church. They now lead a group of 20 believers right in the heart of Simferopol. The church currently meets in a chiropractic salon, but they are looking for another location.
Mother Church
Pastor Yuri Seleznyov leads the "Jesus Lord" church in Sevastopol. His passion is to see Crimea saved. The work that Vladimir and Irina are doing is an extenstion of this passion. Yuri's congregation of 400 members is enthusiastic about assissting and enabling these church planters. Some time ago they decided to open a church in Simferopol. They have a unique method to reach out to the community giving free massages in the chiropractic clinic. The couple that planted this church moved on, so Vladimir and Irina were commissioned to continue work.
Target City: Simferopol
Originally named 'White Mosque', Simferopol was founded in the 15th century. Today, the capital of Crimea has many of the trappings of a modern city. Two thirds of the population are Russian, the rest are Ukrainians and Tatars. The streets are lined with trees and apartments. During the day the city centre streets are full of people going about their business or shopping, but on summer evenings the central area is filled with crowds of young people. They come to meet with their friends, sitting outside or in the little cafes and fast food restaurants.
Vision for Simferopol
This city has clost to 360,000 people: the majority desperately need Jesus. Vladimir and Irina are very good with people and their srategy is face-to-face (relational) evangelism. This strategy is succeeding and their easygoing manner and openness to people lends itself to running Alpha courses, which are vital to the growth of this church. If you ask Vladimir about his vision and plan he would speak of simple obedience to the Lord and his love for the people. Their church has many people in it who need to be reached, and this is not the only church in Simferopol.
Current prayer requests
1) That God will raise up strong leaders within the church group
2) Clear strategy and spriti-inspired creativity for Vladimir and Irina on how to reach their beloved city.
3) That visiting short-term mission teams will be effective in their impact on teh church plant and local communities.
4) A new location to meet, with ample space for a youth drop-in centre and children's ministry.
5) People of spiritual significance to get alongside this couple to encourage and stregthen them
6) A strong contingent of youth and children to carry the outreach plan
7) That a strong bond will develop between Bogdan and Miroslava and their new Mum and Dad.
8) Provision of everyday needs
9)
A strong worship team that will lead people into the presence of God.
